According to the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (click here) bankruptcy filings have increased nationwide to a record level this year. This is due to a variety of factors. There has been a steady increase in the filings here in Illinois, but our office has seen an increase in the number of Chapter 13 bankruptcies filed recently. Also there has been an increase in Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings. This year, filings in Chicago have increased dramatically due to the credit crisis and the unprecedented amount of foreclosures.
