Many people are unaware that bankruptcy laws do provide certain protection against federal or state obligations. It really depends on a number of factors, including the type of taxes owed, the age of the tax obligation, and whether you have filed your return timely or not at all. If taxes are a debt that you owe a Chapter 13 can repay taxes over time for up to five years. Income taxes in some circumstances can also be discharged in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
