What Debts Can I Wipe Away with a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy?

A client will often come in to my office and ask what debts can be "wiped away" with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy? The answer is, medical bills, payday loans, credit cards, repossessions, a defeciency for a property or liability on a piece of real estate among others debts. Debts that are not discharged in a Chapter 7 include, any government fines or levies (including parking tickets, and municipal fines), overpayments of any governmetn benefit, child support or alimony, some taxes or most taxes, any debts related to death or personal injury of another person under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and of course student loans.
